And I believe that that’s the best part of The Good Son is how it doesn’t end. Even after months of reflection, I don’t have an answer. The same question applies to Yu-jin’s mom and aunt. You are trying to decide if Yu-jin is a victim or a criminal. And it’s a sensation that stays with you. After reading the last phrase, the reader begins to feel a bitter taste in the mouth. The moral question at the end is what makes this book so good. And fortunately, the book is even better than I anticipated. So, when I discovered that You-Jeong Jeong was from South Korea, my expectation skyrocketed. I’ve read the book after watching Parasite – which I liked a lot! And the other experience that I had with anything produced in/by a South Korean was Snowpiercer, (the movie, not the Netflix show) I also loved. To me, there’s nothing harder than living up to high expectation.
